Section Engineer (Shaft /Ground Handling) - South Africa

My client is currently seeking to employ a Section Engineer – (Shaft and Ground Handling) for their underground mine in South Africa
The successful candidate will be required to take legal responsibility for men and machinery in the section and manage this area to primarily ensure legal compliance and, secondly to obtain optimum machine, plant, equipment performance and engineering availability as well as to assist in the achievement of production targets.

Minimum Requirements
  • Recognized University Degree/National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • At least 10 years’ experience in mining, of which a minimum of 3 years should have been spent in a managerial capacity
  • Government Certificate of Competency for Mines and Work
  • Valid medical Certificate of Fitness or medically fit to obtain one
  • Good written and verbal communication in English
  • Computer literate
  • Code 8 drivers’ license
  • Experience in Shafts and Ground Handling would be an advantage
Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and monitor adherence to engineering standards and legislative requirements, taking corrective action where necessary
  • Allocate resources in consultation with relevant Section Heads
  •   Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of engineering processes and systems
  • Drive and implement action plans to achieve the mine strategy and business plans
  • Set and prepare financial budget for the section
  • Keep abreast of market trends and new technology
  • Ensure the effective management and control of human resources for optimal utilization
